Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves the reshaping or reconstruction of the eyelids. It is commonly known as eyelid surgery. The procedure can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on the patient’s needs and desired outcomes.
Blepharoplasty is usually performed with local anesthesia. However, there is also a general anesthesia option for our patients who are afraid or do not want to have the procedure under local anesthesia.
The primary goal of blepharoplasty is to improve the appearance of the eyelids by addressing issues such as excess skin, fat deposits, and muscle laxity.
These conditions can cause the eyelids to appear droopy, puffy, or aged. Additionally, they can interfere with vision if the excess skin obstructs the field of view.
Upper eyelid correction (Upper Blepharoplasty): The surgeon skillfully places incisions along the natural creases of the eyelids to remove or reposition excess skin, muscle, and fat, ensuring no visible scar marks during the recovery period.
Lower eyelid correction (Lower Blepharoplasty): Incisions are made below the lower lash line or inside the eyelid (transconjunctival) to remove or redistribute excess fat and skin, achieving a rejuvenated appearance.
Blepharoplasty is often performed for cosmetic reasons, helping individuals achieve a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. However, it can also have functional benefits, such as improving vision by removing sagging skin that affects the field of view. It is essential to consult with a qualified and experienced surgeon to determine if blepharoplasty is suitable for your specific needs.
